Review : Canon Pixma MP620
Canon brand of products don’t require a whole lot of introduction, by default. It’s latest multi-function photo printer Pixma MP620 is currently one of the leading photo printers in the market. It is powered with wireless network capability and twin trays. It is priced around£100.
The printer comes boxed in silver and gray and carries a small footprint. A 6.2cm LCD screen built into the lid of the scanner allows users to navigate along with the wheel scroll control buttons.
Printing quality from a Canon has rarely been questioned. This one falls into the majority category. Monochrome prints are neat, well formed and sharp. Colour prints are equally good too. But, we observed that some of the prints were darker than the original. Photo printers are very close to the originals. All the details in a photograph are well captured by the printer. Colour gradations are smooth and the printer is extremely good with photo prints, as expected.
The new International Standards Organisation (ISO) framework states that the printing speed of printers are to be measured during continous operation. In other words, the start-up time consumed by any printer is ignored. Canon has claimed that the printer can spit out 7.3ppm in black and 5.1ppm in colour keeping the new regulations in mind. Our tests revealed that the MP620 printer was printing at a speed of 5.5ppm for monochrome and 3.3ppm for colour.
Cost of prints is never Canon’s strength. This one throws up 3.9p for a monochrome print and a 9.1p for colour. Monochrome prints are expensive while the colour counterparts are manageable.
The Canon Pixma MP620 is a good printer is you consider printing mostly colour and photographs. If you are looking to print documents in black, don’t buy this, go for a laser printer. As a package, the reviewed Canon printer is a good one but lacks the ‘wow’ factor.
